Bandits kill one, abduct scores in Sokoto; kidnappers, armed robbers arrested in Bayelsa, Ogun

The Police Command in Sokoto State, on Saturday, confirmed the killing of one person and the abduction of several others, as a result of an attack by some unknown gunmen in Tangaza Local Government Area of the state.
Spokesperson of the command, ASP Sunusi Abubakar, who confirmed the attack in Sokoto, said it occurred on Friday evening.
“We have received a report of an attack by unknown gunmen who stormed the headquarters of Tangaza LGA on Friday evening.
“The bandits killed one of the traders, abducted yet an unspecified number of people and in the process carted away foodstuffs and drinks.
“However, the police, in collaboration with other security agencies are still investigating the matter,” he said.
Meanwhile, a source from Tangaza said that the suspected bandits, who shot sporadically, killed the trader on the spot and another young girl who died after being taken to the hospital.
He added that three other persons sustained injuries and were currently receiving treatment in a hospital.
“However, the timely intervention of security agencies, alongside local vigilante, led to the rescue of one of the five children abducted by the gunmen,” he said.
The ongoing security operations in Zamfara and some neighboring states, as well as the closure of major markets in the states, are believed to be taking a huge toll on the bandits.
Meanwhile, operatives of Divisional Police Station, Sagbama, and community youths and vigilante of Adagbabiri community of Sagbama Local Government Area of  Bayelsa State, have arrested two suspected kidnappers.
The suspects are Odulima Igbogiri of Okogbie community and Moses Joshua of Ahoada Town, both in Ahoada West LGA of Rivers State.
They were both arrested at Adagbabiri while planning to kidnap a resident of the community.
This is contained in  a statement  on Saturday by the spokesperson of the command, SP Asinmi Butswait.
He said  the suspects  stabbed  two policemen and a youth,  while resisting arrest.
He, however,  said  the injured officers  were responding to treatment at the Sagbama General hospital.
Butswait said  the suspects were being interrogated, while thorough investigations were ongoing.
In Ogun State, the police command, on Saturday, said a 21-year-old armed robbery suspect was arrested while carrying out operation at Sango-Ota area.
Police spokesman in Ogun, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this in a statement in Ota.
Oyeyemi said the suspect was arrested on September 14, following a distress call received by the police about 9.45 p.m.
He added that a two-man armed robbery syndicate were attacking one Rasaq Hamed at Ile Pupa Iloye area, in Sango-Ota, to dispossess him of his car.
“Upon the information, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Sango-Ota, CSP Godwin Idehai, quickly mobilised his patrol team and moved to the scene.
“On getting to the scene, the robbers, who were shooting sporadically, took to their heels, but they were hotly chased and one of them was arrested with the help of members of the community, while the other one escaped,” he said.
The PPRO said that items police recovered from the suspects were four live cartridges and one expended cartridge.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Edward Ajogun, had ordered a massive manhunt for the fleeing member of the gang.
He also directed that the suspect arrested should be transferred to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.
