Nigerian defender, Leon Balogun’s club, SV Darmstadt 98, took a massive step towards playing in the German Bundesliga next season after they won 1-0 at Karlsruher Monday night to move up to second place on the table in the German lower league.
It was a hard fought win on the road against one of their promotion-seeking rivals, but Darmstadt with Balogun in full sway for the entire clash grinded an all-important result to move into automatic spot for promotion to the German top flight.
They now have 56 points from 32 matches, four points behind league leaders Ingolstadt and two points ahead of Kaiserslautern.
Their last two matches in the regular season are away to struggling Greuther Furth on Sunday and then at home against St. Pauli a week later.
They last played in the Bundesliga between 1978 and 1982.
