The LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, made this known in a statement on Wednesday.
While talking about the other local governments, he said that the densely populated Alimosho Local Government Area, which had the largest landmass, had suffered the most emergency occurrences in five years.
Oke-Osanyintolu said that the period under review were the last five years of the Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led administration from 2019 to date.
“Alimosho LGA ranks first with 319 incidents out of the 1,906 cases successfully attended to by the agency by March 31, 2024.
“Ikeja LG ranked second with 233 incidents, followed by Kosofe LGA which recorded 180 cases, Oshodi-Isolo with 153 cases, while Surulere council followed closely with 149 cases.
“Mushin with 129 cases attended to by the agency by the end of March, 2024.
“Eti-Osa LGA recorded 104 incidents, followed by Apapa LGA with 101 incidents, Lagos Island LGA with 85 incidents.
“Ikorodu LGA with 84 incidents, Shomolu LGA with 65 incidents, Ibeju-Lekki LG with 63 incidents and Lagos Mainland LGA with 49 incidents,” he said.
He added that further data revealed that LASEMA successfully attended to 43 incidents in Agege and Epe LGAs, 30 in Amuwo-Odofin LGA, 24 in Ifako-Ijaiye and 22 incidents in Ajeromi Ifelodun,
“Also in Ojo, 17 incidents were attended to, 13 outside Lagos, while Badagry LGA did not suffer any emergency occurrence during the duration under review,” he said.
The LASEMA boss said further that it had responded to 6,887 incidents in the last five years.
He said that the responses were in accordance with the Agency’s statutory responsibilities, which were to respond, rescue, recover, and ensure continuous Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR).
“In Lagos state, the agency successfully attended to 6,887 incidents in the last five years of the Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu led administration from 2019 to date.
“From Jan. 1, 2023 to December 31, 2023, the agency successfully attended to 1,461 incidents.
“While 445 incidents were successfully attended to in the first quarter of this year from Jan. 1, 2024 to March 31, 2024, making a total of 1,906 incidents attended by the agency during the period.
“In the period under review, the road accident category ranked second in emergencies with 507 cases, which comprises 471 vehicle accidents, 19 fallen containers, and 17 others,” he said.
Oke-Osanyintolu added that the truck and tanker category ranked first with 798 cases comprising of 519 truck accidents, 19 fallen containers, 221 broken down trucks, 11 others, and 47 fallen truck and tankers.
“The fire disaster category ranked third with 213 recorded cases comprising of 192 fire outbreaks, six tanker and truck fire and 15 vehicular fires comprising of cars and BRT buses.
“The building collapse category recorded 43 cases, comprising of 19 collapsed buildings, two impending collapses, 17 partial collapses and five others.
“The explosion category recorded nine cases comprising of one pipeline, and eight gas explosions.
“While the spillage and leakage category recorded 10 cases comprising of six gas tanker leakages, one diesel tanker leakage and three pipeline and oil leakages,” he said.
The LASEMA boss noted that the medical category recorded 200 cases comprising of two suicides, two attempted suicides, two dead bodies, one missing child and 193 others.
“The marine category recorded six cases comprising of one flooding and five capsized boats cases.
“Air crash recorded one case, while the train accident category recorded two cases.
“Other events category recorded a total of 117 incidents comprising of 105 events, two powerline cases, two bridge repairs, one borehole accident, two demolitions and one assault,” he said.
