FOR CHIEF ALEX AKINYELE, THE SUN SET

Life is a journey by all mortals and some day, everyone will bid bye to this sinful world. When we get to certain level in life, we appreciate God for his mercy, protection and grace, to have tolerated us thus far.
When death comes at its appointed time, we celebrate such mortals for living a world of achievements and successes. This is a befitting way to describe High Chief Alex Akinyele, who just passed on and who lived a quintessential life remarkable in several ways, with success and unique achievements.

It hurts to lose loved ones least of all a former Honourable Minister for Information with uncommon panache, brilliance and patriotism. He stood out in discharging his responsibilities and showed so much interest in promoting unity in diversity in our multi-ethnic society with many tongues and tribes. He was always on top of situations and understood so well the dynamics of a plural society like Nigeria. He was at home with everyone.
He gave our government a human face and sold our policies and programmes across the country. He was hardworking and patriotic. He understood quite well our mission in government and worked to ensure that we succeeded in leaving our footprints in the sands of time. Even after government, Chief Alex Akinyele, fondly called “Bobo Aleco” remained a close friend and a distinguished Nigerian who exemplified the virtue of proper upbringing.

I will miss him so dearly. Nigerians will miss him. The country will sorely miss him as one whose voice conveyed patriotism and loyalty. May God in his infinite mercy grant his family the fortitude to bear this painful loss.

Rest in peace, Chief Alex Akinyele, our own “Bobo Aleco”.

Signed

GENERAL I.B. BABANGIDA, GCFR.
FORMER MILITARY PRESIDENT.
