Some armed thugs suspected to be working for the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Tuesday, stormed the residence of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman of Owan East Council, Edo State, Andrew Osigwe.

In an apparent assassination attempt, they started shooting at the residence and vehicles in the premises.

Osigwe is a strong ally of Governor Godwin Obaseki, mobilising voters for the governor’s reelection in the build up to the September 19 election.
After shooting for some minutes, members of the local security group in the area launched a counter attack before policemen joined them.

The thugs later fled and policemen are already combing suspected hideouts in the area for their arrest.
Bullet holes were seen on the building. Windscreen of vehicles were also affected.
One of the policemen simply said: “We are going after them. Don’t worry. They will be arrested”.

Osigwe thanked God for protecting him and members of his family.
He vowed to continue to mobilise for the governor’s reelection.
