ATBU’s Deputy VC, Onogu, dies

The Deputy Vice –Chancellor (Academics) of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, Prof. Muhammad Onogu, is dead, the university announced in a statement on Tuesday.

The statement, issued by the university’s Principal Public Relations Officer of the university, Malam Zailani Bappa, said Onogu died on Monday at a private hospital in Bauchi after a brief illness.

Onogu was born on Jan.15,, 1957, in Okene, Kogi.

He joined the services of ATBU on Sept. 16, 1986, as lecturer II and rose to the rank of professor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering on Oct. 1, 1999.

He was at one time Coordinator and Dean at the School of Engineering and Engineering Technology and also served as the Chairman, University Convocation Committee of the university, among others.

Onogu will be buried according to Islamic rites in his hometown, Okene, the statement said.

Meanwhile, the management of the university declared Tuesday as work-free, adding that three days of mourning would be observed in honour of the deceased from Tuesday to Thursday.
