Members of the Nigerian Association of Air Traffic Controllers (NAATC) resumed work on Thursday after their six-hour warning strike grounded flight operations between 6 a.m. and noon, with scores of passengers left stranded.
A statement by Mr Olajumoke Adetona, the General Manager, Public Affairs, Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), said that the relevant authorities had been in consultation with NAATC’s officials over their agitation.
The statement said the situation was gradually returning to normal as flight operations had resumed at the various airports across the country.
“NAMA hereby wishes to inform the general public that the relevant authorities have been in consultation with Air Traffic Controllers on their agitation for enhanced welfare.
“Meanwhile, the situation is gradually returning to normal as flight operations have resumed at the various airports across the nation.
“We, therefore, regret any inconveniences caused the travelling public as a result of these flight delays’’, it said.
Mrs Henrietta Yakubu, the Deputy General Manager, Corporate Communications, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), said that the first flight to the airport arrived from Lagos at about 1p.m.
Yakubu said the airport had witnessed unprecedented crowd of passengers who had been waiting to catch their flight to various destinations.
“Flights operations have resumed with about three airlines ready to take off at the moment and we hope that many people would be able to travel today, in spite of the delay’’, she said.
