All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the April 11 election in Rivers State, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, has said that the world would be better if humanity embraces love and compassion.
In his message to mark World Blood Donor Day, the former federal legislator called on Nigerians to continue to care for one another even in the face of life’s many challenges.
He described World Blood Donor Day as a day that reminds us of our common humanity, calling on every healthy adult to use the day to reach out by donating blood to those who may need assistance.
Peterside, who received his first degree in Haematology and Blood Transfusion, however, used the occasion to commend health workers, care givers, security agents, road transport owners, road users and the general public.
He solicited their support and urged them to double their efforts as the world marks this all-important day.
“Blood is life. It is a critical ingredient of our existence and well-being. So, there is no gain saying that the power that drives life is blood and that when blood finishes, life ceases.
“Today on World Blood Donor Day, we are reminded again that we can actually make a difference. By our actions, we can truly bring real succour to people in distress if compassion and generosity come to bear in our professional and daily lives.
“I, therefore, wish to use this medium to thank health workers and donors in the last one year who saved lives with their choices and sacrifices. Another year beckons! I hope we will make the best of it”.
Peterside nonetheless called on hospitals, blood banks and other individuals and institutions that handle blood to show greater dedication and caution by ensuring that blood remains safe and secure.
