The Nigerian Army says it will establish 20 multi-media platforms for training in 18 training schools to enhance its operational effectiveness in a joint environment through tailor-made training.
Maj-Gen. Kelvin Aligbe, Commander, Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Nigerian Army, disclosed this on Tuesday, while speaking at the 2024 five-day doctrine and training conference of the army in Minna, Niger state.
“We have received the first batch of 20 multi-media platforms for real time training to be installed in schools immediately after this conference,” he said.
Aligbe said that the tailor-made approach to training aims at developing capacity to respond to multi-faceted security challenges bedeviling the country which the army was tasked to mitigate.
According to him, “in doing so, it had become clear in the increasingly complex modern operational environment, that the army must work with other services, government security agencies as well as non-governmental stakeholders to secure the country for prosperity to thrive.
“At the national level, the Nigerian army will be operating largely as part of a joint taskforce, while retaining the readiness to do same under a multinational force within a regional or global arrangement.
“It is, therefore, accepted that the first step to achieving the desired effectiveness within a joint or multinational environment is to have well trained and mission capable troops, hence this exercise,” he said.
Aligbe said that the theme of the training, “Enhancing Operational Effectiveness in a Joint Environment Through Tailor-made Training,” was selected in line with the command philosophy of Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff.
“It will also transform the Nigerian army into a well-trained, equipped and highly- motivated force toward achieving our constitutional responsibilities within a joint environment,” he said.
On his part, the Chief of Army Staff,  represented by Maj.-Gen. Sani Mohammed, Chief of Training, Nigerian Army Headquarters, said that the army was involved in a plethora of activities from conventional military engagements which include military operation other than war to peace support operations, counterinsurgency/terrorism and anti-banditry operations.
“Accordingly, the Nigerian army is required to train, plan and execute these operations in line with its extant Doctrine 22 which is codified as Proactive Responsive Doctrine,” he said.
The COAS urged the participants to ensure the effective application of the army doctrine and participate effectively in the conference designed to enhance the approaches to training and operational engagements of officers and soldiers.
