APGA faction adopts Obi for Senate

A faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), led by Chief Maxi Okwu, has adopted Chief Peter Obi as its candidate in the yet to be scheduled Anambra Central Senatorial rerun election.

Chief Shadrack Anakwue, Chairman of the faction in Anambra State, announced the faction’s position at a Town Hall meeting in Awka on Thursday.

Anakwue said that their choice of Obi, a former governor of Anambra, was because of his achievements during his eight years in office.

“We have thoroughly evaluated options available to us and came to the conclusion that given the opportunity to serve as a senator, Chief Peter Obi will do more for the people of Anambra Central Senatorial zone,”he said.

He described Obi as a result oriented, tested, selfless and reliable leader who would get the best for his people.

Anakwue called on the people of Anambra to put sentiments, emotions and political difference apart and lend their support to Obi.

In his remarks, Chief Joe-Martins Uzodike, former Commissioner for Information in the state said: “ Obi as a senator will make Anambra Central the most fortunate zone in the state.’’

Responding, Obi said he joined the race for the senate seat because of the pressure mounted on him by stakeholders.

Obi said that as governor he fulfilled all his promises to the people including handing over to another APGA government.
He, however, said that the reality was that a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senator would be in the best interest of the zone.

“I am into this race because of the pressure by stakeholders. A leader is a good listener and a Mr know all,” he said,

The Anambra Central Senatorial seat became vacant following the nullification of election of Mrs Uche Ekwunife of PDP.
