Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State has declared that the progressivism status used by the All Progressives Congress (APC) “is an attempt to deceive Nigerians because no party has the sole right to be described as a progressive political party”.
To him, any party “that impacts into the lives of Nigerians follows the tenets of progressivism”.
“I want to tell you that President Goodluck Jonathan is a progressive because he has ensured good and quality education for all and sundry. It takes a progressive government to build 125 Almajiri schools and 14 universities so that everybody would have access to western and good education,” Mimiko said at Famese-Isokan, Akure South Local Government while commissioning Isokan Caring Heart Mega Primary School.
He berated the APC for its campaign coinage ‘change’ which, to him, has no direction.
Mimiko said the Isokan Mega Primary School is a suburban mega school and a pivotal trend for extending mega school to all communities in the state.
He emphasised that it was about real and actual progressivism, social integration that all children would grow up without division of social status.
Mimiko noted that the concept would make the beneficiaries of such education compete favourably with their counterparts outside the shore of the country.
Commissioner for Education, Mr Jide Adejuyigbe, stated that it was only a passionate government that could pay attention to standard and quality education in putting in place such modern and well-equipped primary schools.
Secretary of Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mrs Olufunmilayo Oni, thanked the governor for his untiring efforts in putting smiles on faces of children in the state.
