Two serving members of the House of Representatives from Nasarawa State, and Speaker of the state assembly have lost the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives ticket for the 2027 general elections.
The affected lawmakers are Mohammed Abdulmumini-Ari, representing Nasarawa/Toto Federal Constituency, Jeremiah Umaru, representing Akwanga/Nasarawa-Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency, and Dr Danladi Jatau, speaker of the state assembly.
Mr Musa Shuaibu-Guri, Chairman of the APC House of Representatives Primary Election Committee in the state, announced the results on Sunday in Lafia.
Shuaibu-Guri said the committee successfully conducted the primaries in four of the five federal constituencies in the state.
He said the exercise was peaceful across Nasarawa/Toto, Keffi/Kokona/Karu, Lafia/Obi and Akwanga/Nasarawa-Eggon/Wamba federal constituencies, with party officials and security personnel supervising the process.
According to him, the results reflected the wishes of party members and demonstrated APC’s commitment to internal democracy ahead of the 2027 elections.
“After a thorough collation and verification process, we are pleased to announce that the primaries in four constituencies were concluded successfully and without major incidents,” he said.
Shuaibu-Guri, however, said the result for Awe/Doma/Keana Federal Constituency was still being awaited due to difficult terrain and logistical challenges.
He expressed optimism that the outstanding result would be received before Monday morning.
Providing a breakdown of the results, he said in Nasarawa/Toto Federal Constituency, Dr Ahmed Wadah-Ekaka scored 1,888 votes, Abdullahi Jibril-Alassi polled 3,728 votes, incumbent lawmaker Abdulmumini-Ari secured 9,039 votes, while Mohammed Al-Bashir emerged winner with 31,796 votes.
In Keffi/Kokona/Karu Federal Constituency, Daniel Ogah Ogazi scored 13,083 votes to defeat Danladi Jatau, who polled 5,873 votes, and Abdulaziz Danladi, who got 1,067 votes.
For Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency, Mohammed Al-Makura, who contested unopposed, secured 45,000 votes.
In Akwanga/Nasarawa-Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency, Tony Bala-Shammah polled 38,333 votes to defeat incumbent lawmaker Jeremiah Umaru, who secured 4,061 votes.
Shuaibu-Guri said the successful aspirants had satisfied the requirements of the APC constitution and guidelines and were therefore declared winners and returned as the party’s candidates for the 2027 general elections.
He listed the winners as Mohammed Al-Bashir for Nasarawa/Toto, Daniel Ogazi for Keffi/Kokona/Karu, Tony Bala-Shammah for Akwanga/Nasarawa-Eggon/Wamba, and Mohammed Al-Makura for Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency.
Meanwhile, Mr Vandefan Gemade, son of Senator Barnabas Gemade, has lost his bid to secure the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the Vandeikya/Konshisha Federal Constituency.
Gemade’s loss was made known during the declaration of results of the APC House of Representatives primaries by the National Assembly Primary Election Committee for Benue on Sunday in Makurdi.
Aside from being one of the leading supporters of Gov. Hyacinth Alia, Sen. Gemade is the Chairman of the APC Elders Forum in Benue.
The chairman of the committee, Alhaji Sabiu Mahuta, announced that Mr Livinus Tsar, a close ally of Alia, emerged as the winner of the primary with 28,549 votes.
According to Mahuta, Vandefan Gemade polled 225 votes in the exercise.
He further stated that the incumbent lawmaker representing the constituency, Mr Sesoo Gboko, scored 693 votes, while the member representing Konshisha State Constituency, Mr Cephas Dyako, secured 62 votes.
A total of 14 aspirants participated in the primary election.
Also, six House of Representatives members on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State have lost their re-election bid.
The result declared by the APC National Assembly Primary Election Committee for Benue on Sunday in Makurdi indicated only four out of the 11 seats retained their nomination, as the other member defected to the Labour Party before the primary election.
The lawmakers lost to candidates believed to be loyal to Governor Hyacinth Alia.
According to the committee chairman, Alhaji Sabiu Mahuta, the member representing Gwer East/Gwer West Federal Constituency, Mr Austin Achado, and the member representing Oju/Obi Federal Constituency, Mr David Ogewu, both lost their re-election bids.
Others who lost their return tickets include Mr Terseer Ugbor of Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency, Mr Sekav Iyortyom of Buruku Federal Constituency, and Mr Dickson Tarkighir of Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency.
The four incumbent federal lawmakers who secured return included wife of the SGF, Mrs Regina Akume, representing the Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency; Mr Solomon Wombo, representing the Katsina-Ala/Ukum/Logo Federal Constituency; Pastor Ojotu Ojema, representing the Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency; and Mrs Blessing Onuh, representing the Otukpo/Ohimini Federal Constituency.
Mahuta said the winners met both the electoral requirements and APC guidelines for the conduct of the primaries and were accordingly declared winners of the elections.
He explained that although the primaries were conducted on Saturday, many returning officers could not return on time due to distance and security challenges in some areas.
According to him, the committee advised the returning officers to lodge in secure locations and return on Sunday for the collation and announcement of results.
Mahuta said Achado lost the Gwer East/Gwer West ticket to Mr David Nongo, who polled 17,429 votes, while Achado scored 729 votes.
The returning officer for the constituency, Mr Demian Akpem, told the panel that elections in Gbemacha Ward were cancelled due to overvoting, while elections in two other wards were disrupted after election materials were snatched.
Mahuta also announced that Mr Peter Ogbodo scored 12,993 votes to defeat Ogewu, who polled 120 votes in the Oju/Obi Federal Constituency primary.
He further declared Mr Christopher Ikper the winner of the Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency primary after polling 37,844 votes to defeat the incumbent, Mr Dickson Tarkighir, who scored 1,746 votes.
The chairman also said Mr Gideon Inyom polled 10,470 votes to defeat the incumbent member representing Buruku Federal Constituency, Mr Sekav Iyortyom, who scored 1,396 votes.
Mahuta further declared Mr Anthony Agom winner of the Ado/Ogbadibo/Okpokwu Federal Constituency primary after scoring 19,124 votes.
He also announced that Pastor Ojotu Ojema won the Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency ticket after polling 11,305 votes.
According to Mahuta, Mrs Regina Akume retained the Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency ticket after polling 19,638 votes.
He added that Mrs Blessing Onuh also secured the Otukpo/Ohimini Federal Constituency ticket after scoring 17,451 votes.
