Edo APC bars journalists from covering congress

Chief Ugochukwu Agballah, the new Enugu State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has expressed dismay over the alleged exclusion of the party’s candidates in the forthcoming council elections in the state.

Agballah, who received his Certificate of Return from the APC National leadership on February 14, said this on Saturday in Enugu while addressing party faithful on the February 23 Local Government elections.

The chairman said that the party would boycott the Wednesday Local Government election in the state if the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) refused to address it.

It also threatened to obtain a court order to stop the ENSIEC from going ahead with the exercise.

Agballah revealed that APC as a party would not participate in the poll, which he accused the electoral umpire of already compromised to favour particular individual or political party.

He wondered why ENSIEC rejected his chairmanship and councillorship list as the authentic APC chairman but accepted the one submitted by the former party chairman, Dr Ben Nwoye.

The APC Chairman pointed out that the electoral commission would not have done that, if they wanted to conduct free, fair and credible council elections in the state.

Agballah accused the ENSIEC of deliberately disenfranchising members of the party from participating in the poll.

Agballah, however, said that APC had filed an injunction before a competent court to stop the purported election, in order to seek redress in the exclusion.

According to him, the party has hired a team of lawyers led by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) to prosecute its case, which is constitutional breach of their rights to participate in the poll.

He indicted the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of using ENSIEC to stop the APC from taking part in the election.
