Imo State is in the news again, for the wrong reason.
Governor Rochas Okorocha has withdrawn aides of his deputy, Prince Eze Madumere.
The action was taken two months after Madumere’s security aides were withdrawn.
A furious Madumere immediately described Okorocha as a dictator, insisting that since the governor’s impeachment plot against him has failed, he is doing everything to force him to resign.
It is believed Okorocha is after Madumere for supporting his detractors during the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries in the South-East state.
The governor’s son-in-law, Uche Nwosu, has been stopped by the national leadership of the party as governorship candidate.
Because of this, Okorocha is at war with the National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole.
A memo from the Office of the Head of Service (OHOS) and signed by K.O. Umelo on October 23, redeployed nine members of staff at the deputy governor’s office.
Those redeployed are operational staff and drivers. No replacement was announced.
Madumere said: “I am not surprised by the action. Since the dismissal of the impeachment plot against me by the court, my office has been largely neglected, mistreated and clearly excluded from activities of government.
“My security details were withdrawn more than two months ago and they have not been restored, even after I have written to the appropriate authorities.

“I have a serious concern over my safety with the resolve of the Commissioner of Police, Dasuki Galadanchi, not to restore my security in spite of the court verdict since September, 2018”.
In a statement, Madumere’s Media Assistant, Mr. Uche Onwuchekwa, said: “The office of the Deputy Governor, wishes to inform the general public of the resolve by Imo State Government led by Owelle Rochas Okorocha to cause harm if not make attempt on the life of the Deputy Governor.
“It is also regrettable to note that Imo State government should throw caution to the wind by flagrantly refusing to observe ethics, values and respect for the hierarchy of office in an established government institution to the extent that the opinion of the Deputy Governor is not sought before issue as sensitive as the Head of Service posting out staff from the Office of the Deputy Governor.
“The sudden posting out of the operational staff in the office of the Deputy Governor is a careful ploy to compromise the security of Prince Eze Madumere.
“We, therefore, wish to put the Inspector General of Police, Commissioner of Police, Imo State and other security agencies on notice as to the questionable actions of the Imo State Government led by Governor Rochas Okorocha, and do hereby state that the relevant agencies should know who to hold responsible if any untoward harm befall the Deputy Governor”.
