Dakuku Peterside: APC ready to take over Rivers governorship in 2023, says 'Wike's policies callous, inhuman'

Wike

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has accused FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, of playing god and working against the people of Rivers State with alleged support from President Bola Tinubu.

Eze, a former National Publicity Secretary of nPDP, described the pro-Wike lawmakers in the South-South state as “legislative misfits”, arguing that their indefinite adjournment of the House of Assembly without passing the Rivers State Budget is a calculated move to cripple governance and starve the state of funds.

In a statement issued in Port Harcourt, Eze stated: “By adjourning indefinitely, the embattled ‘lawmakers’ have shown to the world that they are political skit makers, hellbent on frustrating and distracting the administration of Fubara from actualising his government’s people-oriented policies and programmes.”

Eze accused the Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, and the 26 pro-Wike lawmakers of orchestrating a plan to have Rivers State’s funds locked in the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) following a Supreme Court ruling.

“This legislative misfits, who have mortgaged their conscience and enslaved themselves in the devious political dungeon of Wike, are a disgrace to the principles of democracy and the rule of law.”

He further lambasted the 27 lawmakers for passing three bills that, according to him, were meant to serve their personal interests rather than the people of Rivers State.

The controversial bills include:

1. Rivers State House of Assembly (Powers and Privileges) Bill, 2025 – which grants the Assembly immunity in legislative duties.

2. Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) Bill, 2025 – which repeals the 2018 electoral law and aligns the commission’s functions with the 2022 Electoral Act.

3. Rivers State Local Government Bill, 2025 – which replaces previous 2018, 2023, and 2024 local government laws.

Eze ridiculed these moves, stating:

“For the House to seek immunity in order for them to carry out their clandestine duties shows they either don’t understand the Constitution that granted immunity only on the President, Vice President, Governors, and their Deputies, or they have become democratic despots in the making.”

He urged Governor Siminalayi Fubara not to sign any of the bills into law, stressing that they serve the selfish agenda of Wike’s camp rather than the people.

Eze also accused Tinubu of emboldening Wike’s actions by turning a blind eye to the political instability in the oil-bearing state.

“Imagine what is happening under the watch of Bola Tinubu, as President of Nigeria. The political crisis in Rivers has continued unabated due to the support Wike is getting from President Tinubu.”

“Without mincing words, Wike and his rampaging ‘yes-sir’ lawmakers are navigating their ways through the body language of Tinubu.”

Eze urged Tinubu to act as a leader for all Nigerians and not just as Wike’s political ally.

“At this juncture, I appeal to President Tinubu to remember he is a President and father of all Nigerians, not Wike’s and his loyalists’ President.”

He warned that the continued political impasse in Rivers could lead to instability and hardship for millions of residents.

“Wike forgets that, he whom the gods want to destroy, they first make mad”.

He reminding Tinubu and Wike that “man proposes, but God disposes,” and “no weapon fashioned against the children of God shall prosper”.
