Anambra State YSFON team will Monday depart the shores of Nigeria to Oslo the Norwegian capital to fight for honours at the ongoing YSFON International Football championship.
The State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Dr. Edozie Okey Aroh, said the team is leaving late for the competition which started at the weekend Sunday July 28 is due to the fact that the Norwegian embassy delayed in the issuance of travelling visa, adding that, they were only given visa late Friday night.
According to him: “We are happy that our boys will be leaving Monday for the YSFON International Football tournament which started on July 28. Nobody will blame the state government for the team’s late departure, the Norwegian Embassy delayed our visas, I can not explain why they have done that, may be they wanted to sabotage our efforts, but all the same we thank God,” he said.
He maintained that he was confident that the Nigeria representative to the championship will do well and make the country proud at the competition. “I am leading the delegation to the championship, and I want to assure Nigerians that our team will do well and will not disappoint Nigeria because we are going there to prove that our qualification for the fiesta was not a fluke, we will do our best to win laurel for Nigeria,” he enthused.
To qualify for this competition, Anambra state YSFON team defeated all other Nigerian opponents that participated at the 2013 YSFON National Football Championship. The event is expected to last eight days.
Governor Peter Obi has promised to reward the team if they come home with medal, while the commissioner is expected to join the team on Tuesday night.
