The timely intervention of the Anambra Fire Service has saved the Nodu Okpuno Mata Foam Depot from an evening fire on Monday.
The Director/Fire Chief, Anambra Fire Service, Mr Martin Agbili, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Onitsha.
Agbili stated that his office received a distress call about the fire at about 5.39 p.m. and quickly moved to the scene.
“We immediately deployed our fire truck and brave firefighters to the scene.
“The operation was very successful as we were able to fight, control and extinguish the fire,” he added.
He expressed joy that their timely intervention helped to save a lot of mattresses at the depot.
“We also saved all the adjoining residential buildings from the inferno.
“We want to use this medium to thank the general public that assisted us during the operation.
“We are also grateful to those that put the call across to us,” Agbili said.
He warned that January and February are the peak period of harmattan when the state usually experienced great fire outbreaks.
