Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State has given a firm commitment to raise the profile of Lisabi Festival celebration through the expansion and beautification of the Ake Palace Pavilion which hosts the grand finale.
Amosun, who stated this in his speech at the closing ceremony of the 2017 Lisabi Festival on Saturday, described Abeokuta as a historic city which should be given the required facelift by all indigenes. He called on individuals and institutions in the state to support government initiatives through scholarships, provision of vocational trainings and various self –help ventures.
“It is not easy to serve the people. It requires a lot of hard work. We want support from all Egba indigenes all over the world to further develop our state. We thank Globacom for their presence and support for Lisabi Festival and felicitate with all on the celebration of the festival this year”, the governor concluded.
Earlier in an address, Globacom Chairman, Dr. Mike Adenuga, announced that preservation and propagation of cultural heritages were germane to Globacom’s robust support for festivals, adding that the inculcation of Lisabi Agbogboakala’s values of hard work, courage, integrity and patriotism in the next generation was pivotal to the progress of Ogun State.
Adenuga observed that Lisabi Festival had been a platform for furthering the development of Egbaland and commended the organisers of the event for picking this year’s theme “Self reliance through agriculture for a secured tomorrow” which he described as relevant to the quest to address the problems of unemployment and recession.
In his royal remarks, the Alake and paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo expressed joy that the festival kept improving every year. He described the 2017 festival as the best so far . He congratulated all the four sections of Egbaland for the peaceful Woro procession and prayed for continuous peace in Egbaland and Ogun State in general.
Meanwhile, five prominent Egba indigenes were honoured as  2017 Lisabi Pillars at the Gloworld sponsored Lisabi Royal Banquet held in honour of the Alake. They are Prince Bolu Akin-Olugbade, Chief Abayomi Jiboku, Rt. Hon. Dimeji Bankole, Senator Lanre Tejuoso and Hon Mikhail Kazeem.
