Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State on Tuesday presented a budget proposal of N210.21 billion for 2014 to the House of Assembly.
Christened “Budget of Consolidation’’, Amosun said the 2014 figure was slightly lower than that of 2013 of N211.86 billion and geared toward the actualisation of the administration’s mission to rebuild the state.
He said N117.51 billion was earmarked for capital expenditure, while N92.70 billion would be for recurrent expenditure.
The governor said the expected revenue was N154.38 billion, while the capital receipt was N55.83 billion.
He said the education sector had the lion share of N43.9 billion and followed by rural and infrastructure development with N34.6 billion.
The governor said affordable housing and urban renewal would gulp N26.7 billion, health care delivery N21.11 billion and agricultural production/industrialisation N10.52 billion.
The governor assured the legislators that his administration would complete the ongoing construction of the 15 model schools and construct additional 13.
“We will also commence the construction of three additional general hospitals across the state and also establish diagnostic centre in Abeokuta”, he said.
The Speaker, Mr Suraj Adekunbi, said the budget would be carefully scrutinised to meet the expectations of the people.
“We will scrutinise it with an eagle eye and give it prompt and comprehensive attention,” he said.
Adekunbi said the assembly passed nine bills in 2013, saying that the legislature would continue to support the government through passage of relevant bills.
