The grandmaster of data, Globacom, in one of its latest television commercials produced to promote “Glo Amebo”, an offer that gifts subscribers five times the value of their recharge, has “resurrected” the talkative nature of a veteran actress, Chief Ibidun Allison, popularly called “Amebo” for her role in a classic television soap opera, the Village Headmaster.

The now rested exceedingly popular programme was the longest running television drama on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) at the time. It was broadcast without fail from 1968 to 1988.

In the Glo Amebo TVC, Chief Allison played the role of a talkative beads seller. The commercial begins with Chief Allison (Amebo) initiating a call with her daughter acted by Yvonne Jegede in the morning and she was on the call throughout the day till the evening without realizing that other shop owners had closed.

When one of the customers acted by Ego Ogbaru complained about the incessant chatter, Chief Allison (Amebo) retorted “Na you be Glo wey dey dash me credit anyhow?”

The television commercial underscores the humongous quantum of voice offered on the Globacom network which allows you to call, chat and network with family and friends.

Originally, “amebo” was an Urhobo word “avwebo” which means the favourite wife in a polygamous home and the tale bearer in the family who keeps the husband abreast of happenings and gossips.

Interested subscribers should recharge with *555*PIN# to get five times the value of whatever recharge they make. The offer is available on all recharges.
