Ambode at CAN Inter-denominational service, advises leaders to ‘imbibe humility, service as demonstrated by Jesus Christ’

Governor Akinwummi Ambode of Lagos State, on Saturday, advised leaders in the country to imbibe humility and service to the led as demonstrated by Jesus Christ while on earth.
Ambode, made the appeal at an Inter-Denominational Divine Service (IDDS) with the theme: “Humility in Service”.
It was organised by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) at the Shepherd Hill Baptist Church, Obanikoro, Lagos.
According to him, Christians and leaders must show humility in service because it is a privilege to be called upon to serve.
“‘Humility in Service’, the theme of this Divine Service says it all.
“The Gospel of John 13:1-16, where the theme is taken from, demonstrates Christ’s complete love for his disciples despite his knowing that one of them would betray him.
Christ  also knew that one of the disciples would deny him while others would desert him for a time during his persecution.
“It also showed the humility of our Lord Jesus Christ; this is to tell us that as believers, we must exemplify Christ-like behaviours by loving and caring for one another,’’ he said.
Ambode said that CAN’s yearly prayers had contributed toward  making the state prosper.
“I believe this yearly congregation is one of the major reasons for the progress and prosperity experienced in our state.
“I have no doubt that today’s service will usher in the presence of God as we reverence him in intense words and prayers.
“There is nothing prayers cannot do in the lives of people who look upon the Lord and surrender their affairs in to His able hands.
“We are commanded to pray without ceasing; after all, Our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ started with prayers and ended with prayers.’’
He said, “I commend the Ministers of God for continuously standing in the gap to pray for the peace, progress and development of Lagos State and by extension, our nation.
“I have no doubts in my mind that, as we cry unto God today for a better and promising future for Lagos State, He will surely listen to our cries.
“ As a government, we will always count on your support and prayers because without these, nothing much can be achieved.
“All that we have done in the past 32 months is to provide leadership with innovative ideas and passion to ensure significant improvement in the living conditions of our people,’’ Ambode said.
In his sermon, the National President of CAN, Rev. Olasupo Ayokunle, said that leaders who humbled themselves would be exalted and be worthy of God’s blessings.
“Our politicians or people occupying positions of authority should be humble; they cannot be bigger than God.
“They should know that when they are at the top, there is another authority that is above them,’’ he said.
In his welcome address, Apostle Alexander Bamgbola, Chairman, CAN Lagos State Chapter, said the prayer was timely for leaders to be humble to those they were leading.
“There is no better time than now in our nation, nor in the church in Nigeria when leaders and the led must learn to be humble in service to God and humanity,’’he said.
