Oyo State governorship candidate of Labour Party (LP), Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, has raised the alarm over the use of members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) by Governor Abiola Ajimobi to attack chieftains of opposition parties.
Alao-Akala, a former governor of the Pacesetter State, accused Ajimobi, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, of being responsible for the attack on LP members in Ogbomoso during a rally last week.
He spoke through his Director of Public Affairs, Oludare Ogunlana, insisting that “APC thugs attacked the LP convoy in Ogbomoso”.
He said: “We got clearance from the Police and our itinerary was approved by all security agencies for the Ogbomoso campaign but the APC violated the security arrangement by organising a campaign same time in the same zone.
“They deliberately came to Ogbomoso to foment trouble, despite the fact that they were not cleared by the security agencies to campaign around the area during that period.
“It was also clear that the incumbent administration lied to the police authority that three people died and scores wounded. This prompted the Police Commissioner to order that the matter be transferred to Ibadan Police Headquarters.
“The APC leadership should be ashamed of themselves because the police authority later realised that they lied on all fronts by raising frivolous petitions without any iota of truth.
“The people of the state know better that the Ajimobi-led government has been the one using members of the NURTW to cause trouble and torment people all over the state in order to coerce people to vote for APC. The APC thugs were responsible for the attack and killing at Accord Party peaceful rally in Ibadan weeks ago”.
