Akwa Ibom Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Abuja has ordered a rerun in 18 of the 31 Local Governments of the South-South state.
Mr. Udom Emmanuel of the Peoples Democratic party (PDP) was declared winner of the April 11 election.
He was sworn in on May 29.
Before the swearing-in, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Umana Okon Umana, approached the Tribunal to challenge the outcome of the election.
To Umana, the election was rigged in many local governments.
Delivering its judgement on Wednesday, the Tribunal expressed satisfaction that there are discrepancies during the governorship election.
It directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct rerun in the 18 councils.
