The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly on Thursday passed a supplementary budget of N70 billion as presented by Gov. Godswill Akpabio to the Assembly.
The supplementary budget is solely for capital projects.
Mr Onofiok Luke, representing Nsit Ubium, and the House Committee Chairman on Appropriation and Finance, presented the bill before the lawmakers at plenary on Thursday in Uyo.
The house later dissolved into the Committee of the Whole House for thorough debate of the budgetary estimates.
At the end of the deliberation, a motion was moved by the House Deputy Leader, Mrs Ekaete Okon, for the house to reconvene and read the bill for the third time.
The motion was seconded by Mr Friday Iwok, representing Abak State Constituency, after which the bill was passed.
The Speaker, Mr Samuel Ikon, then directed Clerk of the House, Mrs Mandu Umoren, to communicate the decision of the house to the executive governor for action.
Ikon said that the house expedited action on the bill in line with the commitment of the fifth assembly to make laws for the effective development of the state.
Akpabio, while presenting the supplementary budget, said that it would enable the state government complete all the ongoing projects.
