Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State, on Thursday, said Senator George Akume, the Senate Minority Leader, was the best candidate for the seat of the senate president.
Suswam stated this in Makurdi while donating vehicles to Dr Samuel Ortom and Chief Benson Abounu, the Governor- and Deputy Governors-elect of Benue and their wives.
The governor donated seven Land Cruiser jeeps and a Lexus Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) to them. Suswam explained that the cars were to ease movements for the governor-elect, his deputy and their respective wives.
“The position of the senate president is beyond party level and we all know what it means to have a senate president in your state.
“Akume is the best candidate for the senate presidency and should be given the opportunity to serve his father land.
“Many people do not want to see me, Akume and Ortom, our governor-elect relating well.
“One thing they don’t know is that we are all brothers and should be encouraged to be in good terms in the interest of the state.
“I was in Akume’s house few days ago in Abuja, and many people felt that I should not have gone there to visit him, which is not right, he is my elder brother and so shall it continue to be’’, he said.
He also said he was not aware of any plan by the current Senate President, David Mark, to return to the office.
On Benue, he said it lacked teachers in most primary schools but was not recruiting as being speculated.
