The Ondo State Government has called on traditional rulers in the state to always ensure they keep their subjects abreast of government’s policies and programmes.

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu made the call on Wednesday while presenting instrument of appointment and staff of office to the new Akogbe of Ajue in Odigbo Local Government Area of the state, Oba Bamidele Akinwe.

Akeredolu, represented by his Deputy, Mr Agboola Ajayi, noted that government valued the counsels of the traditional rulers through the state Council of Obas as such had helped in the governance of the state.

He advised the traditional rulers to continue to partner with government so that more achievements could be recorded.

“I want to enjoin our revered royal fathers to continue to support our administration by performing their other socio-economic functions such as, maintaining law and order in their various domains.

“Disseminating state government’s policies and programmes to the people at the grassroots and promoting good governance in their respective areas of jurisdiction.

“Also, mobilising their subjects to pay taxes and development levies as and when due,’’ he said.

While congratulating the new Akogbe for his successful installation, Akeredolu urged him to see his selection as a call to serve his people and impact positively on their lives.

The governor, who applauded the process of selecting the Oba as one devoid of rancour, urged the citizens of Ajue to support the king to have a peaceful reign.

Mrs Lola Fagbemi, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, thanked the Princes and the king makers who took part in the selection process for conducting themselves in a peaceful manner.

Fagbemi reiterated the determination of the governor not to compromise the process of filling any vacant stool in the state in accordance with extant laws.

In his response, the new Akogbe thanked the people for finding him worthy of occupying the throne, pledging to do all within his power not to betray the confidence reposed in him.

“The journey to this day started on February 8, 2018, when the then regent, High Chief John Ogunmakinwo, High Chief Festus Akinnoladun and three other warrant chiefs unanimously voted me as the new Akogbe of Ajue kingdom,’’ he said.

The stool of Akogbe became vacant on August 21, 2015, following the demise of Oba Patrick Adegeye Osunwekomi.
