The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the November 26 governorship election in Ondo State, Mr Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN), has promised to revive the state, if elected.
Akeredolu made the promise during his campaign in Okitipupa Local Government Area of the Sunshine State.
He also promised to restore electricity in Okitipupa LGA given that the area has not had power supply for more than two years.
“We are poised to revive Ondo State and make the state viable again and restore the state’s old glory.
“Youths and women shall be empowered to take their rightful places. We have taken stock of the wants of our people in Okitipupa LGA.
“We shall restore electricity in Okitipupa LGA that has been in total darkness for the past two years now,’’ Akeredolu said.
He solicited the support of residents of Okitipupa LGA and urged them to go out en masse on the governorship election day and vote for APC.
Earlier, Akeredolu and his running mate, Mr Agboola Ajayi, were offered `royal blessings’ by the Olu-Iju of Iju-Odo, Oba Raphael Olumoyegun, and the Majuwa of Ilutitun, Oba Samuel Idepefo.
A mammoth crowd thronged Okitipupa round-about, venue of the campaign to show support to Akeredolu and his political associates.
Akeredolu also promised to revive all the legacies of former Governor Olusegun Agagu and transform the state University of Technology at Okitipupa (OSUTECH) from what he termed a ‘glorifying secondary school’ to an institution of first choice.
He spoke at Igbotako when his campaign team visited the palace of the Rebuja of Osoro land, Oba Gbadebo Rebuja.
He said it was unfortunate that eight years after OSUTECH was established, the institution has yet to produce a graduate.
Akeredolu also vowed to revive the dreams of Agagu for Olokola Free Trade Zone, regretting that despite its attendant benefits to the state, the Mimiko administration allowed the Dangote Refinery, earlier sited at Olokola Free Trade Zone, to be relocated to Epe in Lagos State.
“The incumbent governor, my friend, Mimiko claimed to be the closest governor to former President Goodluck Jonathan, yet, under his watch, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, through the support of the then Federal Government, relocated the refinery that Dangote had earlier sited at Olokola to Epe, Lagos due to the failure of Ondo State Government to fulfil her part of the PPP agreement.
“I have studied extensively, the policy paper of Olokola Free Trade Zone. I must confess that I envy those who formulated the concept. If the blue print of Olokola had been aggressively implemented, poverty would have been a history in Ondo State today.
“It is now almost nine years that the University of Technology at Okitipupa was founded by our big brother, the late Agagu, but the institution has not produced a graduate. This is unfortunate and sad. I will correct this injustice when we get there. OSUTECH will become an institution of first choice within two years when we get to office,” he said.
Akeredolu also said he had contacted a consortium of experts and foreign investors that would establish a Coastal Sea Port in Ilaje/Ese Odo council areas of the state to boost the economy of the state.
“Today, Lagos and Port Harcourt Sea Ports are overloaded. They are now congested. We will engage in Public Private Partnership to establish a coastal sea port in Ilaje/Ese Odo council areas which will turn around the economy of this senatorial district and the state in general”.
