Ajimobi: Akala, Ladoja want immunity from prosecution

Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, on Thursday, described the governorship ambitions of Senator Rashidi Ladoja and Adebayo Alao-Akala as “attempts to secure immunity from criminal prosecution” and shield them from imprisonment in view of many corruption cases hanging on their necks.
But in a swift reaction, Alao-Akala urged the electorate to vote out Ajimobi on Saturday if they want to be liberated from oppression.
However, Ajimobi insisted that there was no way the duo could escape being jailed because of what they did as governors.
The governor spoke through the state All Progressives Congress (APC) Director of Publicity and Strategy, Olawale Sadare
He said: “Akala’s renewed bid to infest the Pacesetter State with indecent conduct in power, clueless leadership and reckless mismanagement of public resources would be swiftly resisted by the electorate who, obviously, are for continuity of value restoration, transformation and repositioning as currently being given by Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
“Akala turned Oyo State into a theatre of the absurd where it was one day, one trouble for the hapless citizens. He became a governor by default and his reign was characterised with lethal political violence, high rate of crime and official corruption. In all of this, the former governor could not be absolved since he never left anyone in doubt of his culpability and vulnerability.
“He converted the seat of power into an abode of thugs where decent men and women ran away from. He restricted access to public funds to his family members, political allies, girlfriends, loyalists and himself only. Akala was notorious for reckless spending of public funds at social functions even when he was not invited. Weekend travel to and from Ogbomoso cost the state between N10m and N20m, every week, for five years”.
Sadare also said that the lack of mental capability to occupy the seat of power in the state daily reflects in the quality of statement being made by the former governor and those who surround him.
“If you listen to Akala or any of his aides, you will weep for our dear state that a man of such hollow mental depth once administered this state. He levels absurd and illogical allegations that have neither any bearing with reality nor logical possibility of being real. For instance, how could a former governor allege that a government that has barely collected the only N5 billion bond approved by the Federal Government had collected N100 billion? It only goes to show that Akala makes those allegations either out of mischief, lack of intellectual depth, ignorance or all the deficiencies earlier stated”.
But Alao-Akala charged the people to vote out Ajimobi on Saturday.
According to him, Ajimobi plans to impose tax on landlords in Ibadan, the state capital. This, he said, would enable the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration to further “impoverish the already wretched landlords in the state”.
Speaking through his Director of Public Affairs, Oludare Ogunlana. Alao-Akala alleged that the plot by the APC to rig the election has been uncovered, urging the people to resist any attempt to subvert their wish by anyone.
His words: “In the next few hours, we will be taking critical steps which will either make or mar this state. As a matter of urgency and in order not to fall into the same pit we fell some years back, we should vote for a governor who loves the people. Alao-Akala fits into this. You must send Ajimobi away as governor with your thumbs. It is glaring that he has no business continuing in Government House.
“Alao-Akala would win because Ajimobi has already been rejected by the people and that is why he would not stop at anything to rig the election in his favour through the effort of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Ambassador Rufus Akeju, who was an aide to APC National Leader, former Governor Bola Tinubu”.
