AIICO Insurance Plc., has urged less privileged children across the world to look beyond their circumstances and pursue their dreams in life.
Mrs Abimbola Shobanjo, Head, Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability, AIICO Insurance Plc, in a Statement made available on Sunday in Lagos, said the charge was in commemoration of the 2023 Children’s Day.
Shobanjo said the underwriting firm team celebrated the Children’s Day with children at the Vine Heritage Home in Abuja, in collaboration with ActionAid Nigeria.
She said the event was organized to inspire the children and spread message of love and hope.
According to her, the initiative,  which was organized with lots of excitement, thrilling activities, games, music, dance and refreshments, was a way of investing into the future of our children and the society.
“One of the fundamental principles guiding AIICO’s CSR initiatives is to support the well-being and development of children, especially those who are less privileged.
“By creating a memorable and uplifting experience, we hope to spread love, joy, hope and give them a sense of belonging
“We aim to inspire the children to look beyond their present circumstances and to find the strength to pursue their dreams,” she said.
Shobanjo noted that over the years, AIICO had continued to support ActionAid in the fight against the obnoxious cultural beliefs that promote the practice of infanticide.
She said the fight was launched in local communities with belief that children born under certain circumstances are evil and should be killed.
According to her, these circumstances included twin children, albinos, children born with deformities, children whose mothers die during childbirth, among others.
Shobanjo said the underwriting company chose to celebrate at Vine Heritage Home because it provides shelter and livelihood for children rescued from barbaric practice of infanticide in some local communities within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
“We remain committed to supporting the cause in fighting against this heinous act and firmly believe that every child deserves a chance at life, irrespective of their circumstances of birth.
They should not be robbed of their rights to exist and be part of society,” she added.
AIICO Insurance is a leading composite insurer in Nigeria, founded in 1963 to provide life, general and health insurance.
It also provided investment management services to create and protect wealth for individuals, families and corporate customers.
