Agbim praises Eagles teammates

chigozie_agbimHome-based Super Eagles captain, Chigozie Agbim, says the team showed character in weathering the early Côte d’Ivoire storm to qualify for the African Nations Championship.

Needing three unanswered goals to reach the finals, the Elephants raced into a two-goal lead within the opening 20 minutes. But the Super Eagles rallied and successfully shut out the Ivorians for the remaining 70 minutes.

“The problem we had in the first 10, 15 minutes is that we were a little slow because of the weather,” Agbim said. “But later on we picked up and tried to psyche ourselves and played a good game.

“I think it shows that the team has character and we are very happy to have qualified.”

With progress secure, Agbim says the team will now have to shift focus to winning the title next year in South Africa.

“We have a good team and we are confident we can win the competition,” he says.
