Agbaje: We can’t continue to leave Lagos in the hands of few selfish individuals

Jimi Agbaje

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Lagos State, Jimi Agbaje, has urged Lagosians to resist the entrenchment of “the government of a few, by a few and for a few” which has been going on in the state for almost 20 years.
Agbaje, who attributed the recent unpleasant development between the executive and the legislature in Lagos State to this, maintained that “one of the ways to end the reign of these selfish and narrow-minded individuals was to vote out APC in the fast-approaching governorship election”.

The PDP candidate added that it is now very clear, “even to doubting Thomases, that governance ceased with the imposition and controversial emergence of the All Progressives Congress, APC governorship candidate, Babajide Sanwo-Olu”.

Agbaje, who is unhappy with the politics of self in Lagos State, called on all men of goodwill to speak out and condemn undemocratic forces behind this government of a few.

“I am happy that I have been vindicated. Trust is incontrovertible, those who resent it, do so and succeed for as long as their cover-up lasts. But the good thing is that at last, truth will come to the fore for everyone to see.

“That is why we must be careful about what we say or do because definitely, we will be haunted by our actions; that is, if they are negative.

“A couple of weeks ago, I spoke about Lagos State government being on standstill. I was misunderstood and even misrepresented by some people who read political meaning into that statement of fact.

“I had posited that there was a general consensus about issues of insubordination across board. And that the various government agencies and departments were on their own as no one listened or respected a governor who was on his way out. I equally warned that no serious state can afford to leave governance in the hands of a few who are only interested in furthering their selfish and narrow-minded ambitions at the expense of the people.

“With the crisis the crisis that characterised this year’s budget presentation as well as the impeachment threat, I believe I have been vindicated.

“Finally, I want to say that we do not need these unnecessary crises and distractions. This is why we want a peoples’ Lagos that would be driven on freedom, democracy and the people. This is my promise and if I elected, I will deliver on these promises”, he ended.
