In his reaction, Governor Olusegun Mimiko expressed shock, saying people of the Sunshine State would miss him.

It was learnt that the 65-year-old former governor, who just returned from the United States (U.S.), slumped  on Friday and died before he could be rushed to the hospital.

Mimiko, while expressing shock and disbelief, described the death as “most unfortunate and hard to believe”.

In a statement on his behalf by the Commissioner for Information, Mr Kayode Akinmade, Mimiko said: “This news, to say the least, is most shocking and very hard to believe. It is most unfortunate and indeed a great loss.”

Mimiko prayed God to give the family of the deceased the fortitude to bear the loss.

Agagu was Aviation Minister in the first term of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration between 1999 and 2003 before he was elected as Ondo governor on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Born on February 16, 1948 in Okitipupa, Ondo State, he was also deputy governor to Evangelist Bamidele Olumilua in the Third Republic on the platform of the defunct Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Survived by his wife, Olufunke, children and grandchildren, he was one of the intellectual giants of the PDP.
