Afuye: Odumakin played his part in democratic struggle

Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Funminiyi Afuye, has described the death of the spokesperson of Afenifere Pan-Yoruba group, Yinka Odumakin, as a rude shock.

This was contained in a statement by the Special Adviser to the Speaker on Media, Akogun Tai Oguntayo, in Ado Ekiti, upon hearing of the demise of the late pan Yoruba image maker.

Afuye, who went down memory lane, noted that “irrespective of whichever angle anyone sees Yinka (Odumakin), he played his part in the democratic struggle. He was a courageous Comrade. We were together in Afenifere and I knew the turf he was made of. We were the young Turks, followers of Afenifere.

The speaker sent his condolences to “our Leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, Afenifere group and the Odumakin family, praying to God to grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.

“Yoruba race and Nigeria as a whole will miss Yinka Odumakin’s views on national issues. We, however, take solace in the fact that he left behind a firebrand wife, Joe Okei-Odumakin, whose burning sense of patriotism is also remarkable.”
