The Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa, ANOCA, has announced the death of Sone Winslow, who was until his death on May 12, the Director of Cabinet of the association.
An ANOCA statement signed its President Ivorian, Gen Lassana Palenfo, described late Winslow as a selfless man who worked for improvements of the continent’s Olympic Movement.
Winslow, who hailed from Cameroon, had died in Abuja after a brief illness.
“He was a very bright student in his days and obtained a higher diploma in Translation and interpretation studies.
“This opened the doors for him at his country’s National Assembly , where he served as translator/interpreter.
“He later on embraced sports administration and worked as translator/interpreter for the Supreme Council for Sport in Africa (SCSA) and ANOCA,” the statement said.
It described Winslow’s integrity and commitment to service as priceless, stressing his unquantifiable zeal to the will and objective of ANOCA before he met his untimely death.
The statement added that in his 25 years of service to the African Olympic and Sporting Movements, the Winslow spared no efforts, serving with devotion all ANOCA presidents from inception to date.
“Here, he held several duty posts, notably Conference Coordinator (1992 to2006), Executive Director (2006 to 2009) and Director of Cabinet from 2009 to the day he died”.
“With his invaluable knowledge of the African Sporting and Olympic Movement, he equally served on several occasions as consultant for the Association of African Sports Confederation, AASC,” it said.
The illustrious son of Cameroon was also a high level sports administrator in his country, where he was president of the Cameroon Baseball and Softball Federation (1997 to 2013).
Winslow was a Board member and Deputy Secretary-General of Cameroon NOC from 2001 to 2013.
