The 2019 race for the Oke Mosan Governor’s Office in Abeokuta, Ogun State has started.
For ‘showing his hand early’, Senator Solomon Adeola, representing Lagos West Senatorial District, has incurred the wrath of Governor Ibikunle Amosun.
The senator’s mansion in Ilaro, Ogun West may be the first casualty as it has been marked for demolition within 72 hours.
It is believed Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, is being sponsored by the camp of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
Amosun is seen as the arrowhead of the President Muhammadu Buhari camp’s agenda to wrest power from Tinubu in the South-West in the build up to 2019.
Stakeholders in the Gateway State see the drama as a major showdown capable of dividing the party in the South-West state.
To give legal backing to the demolition, Ogun State Urban and Regional Planning Board served a contravention notice on Adeola’s house located along Poly Expressway, Government Reserved Area, Ilaro.
A source told Freedom Online that the multi-million naira house in Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government Area ‘will soon be reduced to rubble’
The notice, dated December 6, 2016, specifically stated that the building, upon inspection, contravened the provisions of the Urban and Regional Planning Law No. 20 of 2005 and the enabling regulations of the state.
It added that the contravention consisted of “illegal construction of building without approved building plan.”
The state agency further threatened to demolish the building if the owner failed to remove the said contravention within three days “after service of demolition notice on you.”
But, Amosun, in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Adejuwon Soyinka, denied any involvement in the plan to demolish the building.
Soyinka said: “For the avoidance of doubt, it must be clearly stated that Governor Ibikunle Amosun has no hands in whatever may be going on with the said property.”
He, however, said contrary to insinuations in the 40-year-old state, the property in question was first served contravention notice by the Ogun State Ministry of Urban and Regional Planning, on January 6, 2014.
He added: “At that time, the owners of the building, which was then at window level, were duly alerted to the fact that the structure was being put up illegally and without approved plan.
“The contravention notice also advised the owners of the property to come up with all documents in support of their case, ‘including development permit to the undersigned within 24 hours of this notice on you.’
“When that particular notice was ignored, it was followed with another notice dated, January 28, 2014, which was also ignored while the owners of the contravening property continued to develop in flagrant disregard for the laws of the land.
“It was under this circumstance that the state Urban and Regional Planning Board Development Control Department issued yet another contravention notice to the owners of the said property, this time, on December 6, 2016.
“The said notice gave the owners/occupiers of the property, which is now fully built and in use, in flagrant disregard for all previous notices, three days to come up with its approved building plan.”
