Globacom Chairman, Dr. Mike Adenuga (Jr), has enjoined Nigerians to contribute meaningfully to efforts aimed at preserving and developing the country’s rich cultural heritage to chart a road map to a glorious future .
Adenuga stated this in his goodwill message ‎at the grand finale of the 2015 Lisabi Festival held at Ake Palace ground, Abeokuta on Saturday‎.
He was represented by the Glo Business Director, Lagos, Mr. Ayo Ogunranti.
He noted that knowledge of the past, especially the legacies bequeathed by heroes and heroines, would help shape the emergence of a just and egalitarian society, adding that Globacom was committed to all positive initiatiatives that would help in preserving the country’s rich cultural heritage.
“It is gratifying that the modern day Lisabi Festival is a veritable platform for the development of Egbaland in particular and Ogun State in general. No meaningful development can be achieved without unity. Hence, this year’s theme ‘Collective responsibility: A panacea for the socio-economic development of Egbaland’ is very apt.”
He assured that Globacom would continue to be an enabling platform for the empowerment of the generality of Nigerians.
Also speaking at the event, the Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, described the 2015 Lisabi Festival as the best since he got to the throne nine years ago and the first to be attended by the Osile of Oke Ona Egba and the Agura of Gbagura. He added that this was a healthy development for the unity of Egbaland. The Alake had earlier said Globacom’s sponsorship made Lisabi Festival to grow in leaps and bounds.
“Lisabi Festival is growing bigger and bigger every year. This is the best so far. By the grace of God you ain’t seen nothing yet as next year’s edition will be twice better than this year’s event. Unity is paramount and all Egba are one. Let us remain united wherever we may be, either at home or in the diaspora.”
Oba Gbadebo said the word “Egba” means somebody who is very accommodating and loving, adding that the culture which had propelled Egba sons and daughters to record many firsts in the country should be sustained in order to maintain the record.
In his keynote address, the Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun said his administration will continue to place emphasis on grassroots development and urged Egba indigenes in the diaspora to come and invest in Ogun State by building industries.
He challenged members of the Lisabi Festival to come up with innovative and creative ways to make the Festival more interesting next year, promising to transform the pavilion into a more conducive venue.
