FORMER Protem National Chairman of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) and a chieftain of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, on Tuesday said the proposed national conference would promote the unity of the country.

Adebanjo spoke at the public presentation of a book entitled: “The Untold Story of the Nigeria-Biafra War’’, written by Dr. Luke Aneke.

President Goodluck Jonathan had on October 1, set up an Advisory Committee to establish the modalities for a national dialogue or conference.

Adebanjo said, “I support the idea of a national conference. The future of Nigeria is in our hands. Nigerians should treat each other with truth,’’ he said.

Adebanjo, who was the Chairman of the occasion, said the book would make the younger generations to appreciate the civil war better.

“The history of Biafran war had to be told clearly and honestly.’’

Prof. Anya O. Anya, the President-General of Ndigbo, Lagos, urged Nigerians to be more positive in their thinking and assessing the country.

Anya urged the media to always project positive image of the country in their reportage of events, especially political issues.

Dr Douglas Anaele, philosophy lecturer at the University of Lagos, said the 720-page book, contains many historical facts about the war.

Anaele, who reviewed the book, said although the book was not devoid of errors, the author was not biased.
