ADC Grassroots Group Strongly Condemns Attack on Party Leaders in Edo

A prominent interest group within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), known as the ADC Grassroots Mobilisation for Change (AGMC), has condemned the violent attack on some of the party’s leaders during a meeting in Edo State on Sunday.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by its Director of Communications, Andrew Iguebor, the group described the incident as a dangerous escalation of political intolerance that poses a serious threat to Nigeria’s democracy.

The attack took place at the private residence of Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor, the ADC’s National Legal Officer, located in Iruekpen. The meeting was a duly organised gathering of party chieftains.

Iguebor noted that the assault occurred just five days after another attack on former Labour Party presidential candidate Mr. Peter Obi and other ADC leaders in Benin City, describing the pattern as deeply worrying.

“We strongly condemn these repeated attacks on our party,” the statement read. “Democracy can only flourish when opposition voices are allowed to operate freely, rather than being targeted through violence and intimidation.”

The group described the assault on a peaceful meeting inside a private home as not only an attack on the ADC but a direct assault on democratic principles.

AGMC called on security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice without delay.

The group reaffirmed the ADC’s resolve to continue its mission of promoting good governance and protecting the will of the people ahead of the 2027 general elections, stating that no amount of threats or violence would silence the party.
