ADC Enugu Suspends Congresses Over INEC Action on David Mark, Aregbesola

The Enugu State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced the suspension of its scheduled ward, local government, and state congresses following developments involving the party’s national leadership.

Speaking in Enugu on Thursday, the state chairperson of the ADC, Mrs. Stella Chukwuma, confirmed that the decision aligns with guidance from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

She explained that the suspension will remain in effect until further directives are issued by the party’s national headquarters.

According to Chukwuma, while the congresses have been put on hold, other party activities across the state are continuing without interruption.

She noted that ongoing efforts include membership registration, mobilisation, coalition building, and internal realignments aimed at strengthening the party’s structure.

The ADC chairperson also revealed that INEC had removed official correspondences linked to the party’s disputed national leadership, including former Senate President, Sen. David Mark, and former Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.

She described the situation as a significant setback, stressing that it would be inappropriate to proceed with the congresses until clarity is restored at the national level.

Despite the internal challenges, Chukwuma expressed optimism about the party’s growing influence in Enugu State.

She stated that the ADC is increasingly becoming a preferred platform for opposition groups seeking political alignment ahead of future elections.

The development highlights ongoing tensions within the party’s national leadership and its impact on grassroots political processes.
