Gov. Dapo Abiodun of Ogun has felicitated the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr Akinwumi Adesina, as he celebrates his 65th birthday.
The governor, in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Thursday, described Adesina as an “economic visionary” whose contributions have significantly influenced the landscape of Africa’s development.
The governor lauded the remarkable journey of Adesina since he took the helm of affairs of the AfDB in 2015.
He noted that under his stewardship, AfDB had transformed into a beacon of hope and progress for the continent.
The governor emphasised that Adesina’s leadership had enhanced the bank’s reputation and fortified its role as a pivotal institution, dedicated to the economic upliftment of African nations.
“Adesina’s illustrious career in economics and development has been marked by his unwavering commitment to the cause of Africa’s growth.
“Adesina embodies the essence of leadership, inspiring others to strive for excellence and fostering a unifying spirit among African countries,” he added.
The governor acknowledged Adesina’s role as a distinguished ambassador of Nigeria.
“His immense contributions toward the economic emancipation of the continent had not only elevated Nigeria’s standing on the global stage but also served as an inspiration for many.
“As articulated by Adesina, himself, we must invest in our people, create jobs, and ensure that no one is left behind in our quest for sustainable development.
“This philosophy, Abiodun said, had been a guiding principle throughout his tenure, influencing policy decisions that resonate with the needs of the continent.
“I am confident that under Adesina’s guidance, AfDB will continue to drive impactful changes that will benefit, not only Nigeria but the entire African continent,” Abiodun said.
