Determined to make a big impact in its first-ever participation in the Nigeria Premier League (NPL), the management of the newly promoted Abia Warriors FC of Umuahia is perfecting plans to assist the team to achieve a great success in the competition.

The management board has put plans in place to beef-up the squad with the recruitment of quality players to fill some weak positions in the team that were on parade last season in the Nigeria National League (NNL) cadre in order to match the tough oppositions in the premiership division.

Subsequently, the technical and administrative departments of the team will be strengthened to ensure that the club is put in the strong position to reflect the new professional status of a premiership outfit it has acquired.

These revelations were made yesterday in Abuja by the Executive Chairman of Abia Warriors FC, High Chief Emeka Inyama who also disclosed that the board has resolved to make the Umuahia-based club one of the top teams in the premier league, adding that his club will take the league by storm when the new season starts.

According to him, ‘Abia Warriors FC will not be a pushover team when the new season starts because we are coming to compete on equal basis. We will show that we earned our place to play in the elite division after a very tough competition in the lower cadre of the Nigeria league”.

Inyama who is also the Chairman of NNL and an Executive Board member of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) hinted that his club popularly known as ‘Ochendo Babes’ will challenge for the trophies at stake in the new season. He said that anything that needs to be done to prepare the team for the top flight football will be done no matter what it will take the state.

“ I want to assure all Abians and indeed Nigerians that our amiable sports-loving governor, Chief Theodore Ahamefule Orji is ready to back his pet club to succeed. Its on record that he played a pivotal role in Abia Warriors promotion to the premiership hence he will not turn his back on this team which has broken the jinx of an Umuahia-based team playing a premier league match at Umuahia Township Stadium’’, concluded the veteran sports journalist cum administrator.
