The Abia Acting Head of Service (HoS), Mrs Joy Maduka, has commended Gov. Alex Otti for prioritizing women inclusion in governance to accelerate socio-economic and political development.
Maduka made the commendation when Travailing Mothers for a New Abia, a Non Governmental Organisation, visited her in Umuahia.
According to her, the appointment of women into key positions in the state is an indication that the present administration would promote gender equity and empowerment.
In a statement issued in Umuahia and made available to newsmen on Sunday, she said that the gesture would increase women’s participation in the formulation of policies and programs that would  transform the state.
She maintained that women inclusion in governance is key to socio-economic growth, because women are the backbone of families and communities.
“It is said that when you train a woman you have trained a nation, which shows that women play a pivotal role in the development of society,” she said.
Earlier, the Coordinator of the organisation, Mrs Chinyere Ekeleme, said they came to show their appreciation and gratitude to the governor for appointing her the acting HoS and also congratulate her on her elevation.
Ekeleme said that the benefits of women inclusion in governance were enormous and urged the governor to appoint more women into leadership positions.
