All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Rivers South-East Senatorial District, Senator Magnus Abe, has urged his supporters not to retaliate the attack on his Senatorial Liaison Office.
Unknown persons burnt the liaison office in Bori, Khana Local Government on February 22.
Abe, a member of the 7th Senate, made the appeal at a meeting with his supporters at Bori on Tuesday.
He said the move would avert bloodshed, destruction of property and anarchy in the area.
He urged his supporters to see non-violent approach as a sacrifice that would not turn their mother land into a theatre of war.
Abe sympathised with families that lost their dear ones in the attack and prayed that God would give them fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
He assured the people that the perpetrators of the heinous crime would be fished out by the security forces, adding that nobody was above the law.
Abe stated that it was inhuman, wicked and extreme callousness for people to maim and kill their fellow citizens just for power.
The former Senator called on Ogoni people to avoid any act that could destroy peace and harmony in their area.
Re-run elections in the South-South state are slated for March 19.
The state Police Command also confirmed the attack.
DSP Ahmad Muhammad, Public Relations Officer of the command, said in Port Harcourt that the police had received report on the attack at the office in Bori, Khana Local Government area.
He said the police had commenced investigation.
“ The police have received report on the incident. We have already commenced investigation and will keep you informed on developments,” he said.
Abe said that the office was attacked about 5.30 pm on Monday by unknown persons.
“ Information available said that my Senatorial Liaison Office in Bori was attacked with bombs and burnt.
“ Staff on duty had to run for their lives, abandoning everything they were doing. That office also doubles as senatorial liaison office of the APC for Rivers South-East Senatorial District,” he said.
He said it was unfortunate that “ desperate politicians” were trying to intimidate people from coming out to vote on Election Day.
Abe urged the Federal Government to ensure that there was level playing ground for all contestants before and during the election in the electoral process.
