Oreoluwa Osonuga, the son-in-law of veteran journalist and former Managing Director of the defunct Monitor newspaper, Ayo Akinyemi, who was kidnapped on Sunday in Ikenne, Ikenne local government area of Ogun State, has regained freedom.

Sources said Osonuga was set free by his abductors after payment of a ransom having spent four days in captivity, while it would be recalled that upon abduction, the kidnappers demanded for N500 million ransom.

The sources added that the victim, following his release on Wednesday evening and handed over to his family, was subsequently taken to hospital where he is currently receiving treatment as at the time of filing this report.

As at the time of his release, the abductors held on to his (Osonuga) mobile phone containing his sim card, keys to his home and car key censor.

The victim, who owns a farm settlement in the town, it would be recalled was attacked by the gunmen while driving out from the farm to buy fuel and deliver some poultry products.

The gunmen forcefully whisked him away and abandoned his vehicle, but later contacted the family through Osonuga’s mobile phone demanding N500 million ransom, which was later reduced to N50 million

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) at Ikenne Divisional Police Headquarters shortly after the incident visited the scene with his men and recovered the Highlander 2017 edition car of the victim, already driven to the station as at the time of this report.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, when contacted on Wednesday night, confirmed the release of the victim, having earlier assured that the command was on proactive move towards his rescue, assuring that there was progress ongoing.
