Abandoned Heartland of Owerri broke again

Heartland Football Club of Owerri which have been abandoned by the Imo state government is broke again.

Few weeks ago, the poor finances of the club became agonising when the club was walked over in an international club engagement, a huge embarrassment to the country. Despite this, Governor Rochas Okorocha is yet to attend to the financial mess which the club have found itself.

In spite of the impressive performances which Heartland have been churning out in recent weeks, players of the Owerri-based club have been wallowing in financial misery.

Management of the Federation Cup holders are yet to pay their players 20% of last season’s sign-on-fees.

The players have also not been paid any match bonus after eleven rounds of matches, and there are no indications that the sign-on-fees for the current season would be paid soon.

The poor financial situation of the club has led several senior players to call on the state government to come to their aid.

The Imo state-owned club which won their first away game in four years on Wednesday against Shooting Stars play host to ABS FC in a Week 13 encounter today at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri.
