Rashidat Ogundele, one of the home-based table tennis players selected for the 11th All Africa Games (AAG) on Friday said she was confident of having a good outing at the Games.
The Games are scheduled to hold from September 4 to September 19 in Congo Brazzaville.
Ogundele, who would be participating in the Africa Games for the first time, said in Lagos that she would not disappoint the technical crew for giving her the opportunity to make the team.
“I promise to intensify my effort to represent the country creditably at the Games, being my first time. I don’t want to disappoint the coaches and the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) for giving me the opportunity to represent the country,’’ she said.
Ogundele assured that she would redouble her effort and determination to enable her win medals for the country.
“I’m very happy to be part of the table tennis team. It has not been an easy task passing through the trial process. To whom much is given, much is expected, so I will do everything within my ability to make the country proud by winning medals at the Games,’’ Ogundele vowed.
She, however, commended the NTTF and the National Sports Commission (NSC) for providing an enabling environment for players to prepare for the event.
On the newly-appointed foreign technical adviser, the debutant said that his addition to the coaching crew would be an added advantage to the team at the Games.
NTTF, on August 24, unveiled Martin Adomeit, a German, as the Technical Adviser, ahead of the event in Congo.
Five male and four female players would represent the country in the ping pong event of the Games.
