The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of Mr Fayoade Mustapha Adegoke, an Assistant Inspector-General of Police (IGP), to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG).
Mr Torty Kalu, the spokesman of PSC, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Abuja.
He said the decision was reached following the DIG’s exceptional performance in the commission’s written examination and oral interview.
Kalu said the new DIG began his career in the Nigeria Police Force in 1992, making it over three decades of distinguished service to his new role.
“Until his promotion, he served as the AIG in charge of Zone 2 Command, Lagos, where he was widely praised for his community policing initiatives and strategic operations.
“His career is decorated with numerous international and national accolades, including the 2024 Crime Buster of the Year for West and Central Africa,” he said.
Kalu said the Chairman of PSC, Mr Hashimu Argungu, charged the new DIG to view his promotion as a call to greater responsibility.
Argungu expressed confidence that the new DIG’s expertise in technology-driven policing and stakeholder partnership would significantly strengthen the nation’s security architecture.
