Forty per cent of workers in Chanchaga Local Government in Niger State have fake certificates, its chairman, Alhaji Yusuf Inuwa, has said.
“40 per cent of my local government staff are involved in certificate forgery and racketeering scandals, this is very scary,” Inuwa said in a statement in Minna, on Tuesday.
According to him, it is for such reason that some of the workers were not cleared for payment by the screening committee.
“We are compiling the list; all culprits in the certificate scandals will be dealt with,” he said.
He said that the names would be submitted to the Ministry of Justice as well as the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for further interrogation and prosecution.
He expressed the local government’s commitment to quality standards in educational pursuits, and declared that government would support genuine workers seeking to improve their education.
Inuwa said that his administration had made education a priority and was targeting 35-40 pupils-to-teacher ratio in line with UNESCO standards.
