The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), on Tuesday, unveiled the 25th anniversary emblem to encapsulate the enduring spirit of the agency.

Freedomonline  reports that the unveiled emblem was in commemoration of LASTMA’s 25 years anniversary.

Speaking at the official launch of the emblem, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Mr Olushola Giwa, described the 25th anniversary as a moment for reflection, rededication, and visioning.

“ It gives us the opportunity to assess how far we have come, recognise the men and women who wear the LASTMA uniform with dignity

“It is also an avenue to unveil our roadmap for a smarter, technology-driven, citizen-centric traffic management future in Lagos,” he said.

He noted that LASTMA had stood at the frontline of order, discipline, and safety on the roads.

He added that LASTMA had evolved from a traffic management to an incident management agency since inception in 2000.

“Our theme for this milestone celebration is “LASTMA @25: Enhancing Traffic Efficiency and Safety in Lagos State Road Challenges, Opportunities, and Innovations.”

“ Through commemorative activities-including the Lagos Traffic Summit, community outreach campaigns, staff recognition ceremonies, and strategic dialogues-we aim to reinforce LASTMA’s new values of professionalism, integrity, and service excellence,” he said.

He assured that the next 25 years would not only consolidate on achievements, but would also usher in a new era of innovation, transparency, and public trust in traffic law enforcement.

He commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his unwavering support for transport sector reform and the entire Lagos State Government for providing enabling environment for LASTMA to thrive.

Also, the General Manager, LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said the emblem unveiled transcended its aesthetic representation and outlook.

“It shows the unrelenting passion demonstrated by every officer who has adorned the LASTMA uniform with honour and distinction.

“It stands as an emblematic insignia, calling us to reaffirm our collective duty to fortify and expand the legacy meticulously built over the past twenty-five years,” he said.

He noted that LASTMA was established a quarter of a century ago, vide Head of Service Circular HOS/12/2000, with the responsibility to control and manage traffic operations.

He added that there had been enabling laws to give the agency the needed legal backing, such as the LASTMA Law, the Road Traffic Law and the Transport Sector Reform Law(2018,as amended).

“LASTMA has, through steadfast dedication, resilience, and an unwavering pursuit of excellence, evolved into a formidable reference point in the management of traffic in Lagos State.

“The Agency became a bastion of disciplined driving culture, engendering innovation, and exemplary public service within Nigeria’s public transportation landscape.

“May this emblem ignite in us a renewed zeal, a deeper sense of commitment, and an unshakable resolve to deliver unalloyed service to state, characterised by safer and seamless traffic, order, and progressively efficient,” he said.

He said the 25th anniversary would be coming up from July 15 to July 17.
