Four months to the presidential election, Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have warned party members and voters not to have anything to do with the cross-party ‘Rainbow Coalition’ of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike.
To them, Wike’s plan, if not checked now, will lead to ticket-splitting, voter confusion and structural weakness for APC candidates at state and legislative levels.
Coming under the aegis of Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), the APC state chief executives, at a strategic, emergency meeting in Abuja, unanimously resolved that no member of the governing party will participate in, support or endorse any political alliance that risks creating ticket-splitting, voter confusion, or structural weakness for APC candidates.
PGF is led by Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State.
“The APC Governors’ Forum unanimously resolved that its members will not participate in, support or endorse any alliance or political arrangement capable of undermining the re-election of Mr. President, weakening the APC, or adversely affecting any candidate of the party at all levels,” Uzodimma told reporters after the meeting.
